Finding Myself Through Their Eyes

When I was young, I spent hours in the bathroom.  I would sit on the sink and stare into the mirror.  I practiced staring into and beyond my eyes, trying not to look at my reflection, but rather at the other side of my eyes.

Now, two years into remission from cancer, I am allowing myself to be more creative.  I have managed to coax these creatures out of their wood, with the art of pyrography (wood burning.)  Within each one, I have been delighted to find a part of myself!

I also have discovered gourd craft.  Once I burn in my image, I use a wax-resistant technique to apply color and richness.  There is a whole world of gourds and gourd societies!  Who knew?
